JAC on MGNERGS reiterates to launch mass movement

JAC on MGNREGS Ukhrul district headquarter has reiterated their demand to generate 100 days guaranteed man-days for the MGNREGS wage earners in a press conference held at Ukhrul District Working Journalists Association (UDWJA) office, Viewland, Ukhrul, today.
Convener of the JAC, Dickson Ngalung stated that they would form a group by amalgamating all the villagers of Ukhrul district and will launch a mass movement against the incumbent Government led by N Biren Singh as the Govt failed to look into the grievances of the poor rural people.
The JAC also demanded implementation of funding policy of MGNREGS, he said and conveyed that neighbouring States like Meghalaya, Nagaland could generate about 80-90 mandays annually while Manipur could generate only 10-11 days.
He further maintained that the State Government is not serious about the plight of the MGNERGS wage earners adding that Limitation of man-days has worsened the economic conditions of the rural populace.JAC secretary, Khamung Mashangva stated that a mass movement would be launched at the district level by forming core committee on MGNREGS for advocating the demand and grievances of the wage earners at Central level.Sources said that an official meeting will be held regarding the matter on February 4 at Awontang hall, Ukhrul in the presence of headmen and chairmen of different villages of Ukhrul district.
