MACR submits charter of demands to political parties

Expressing "deep concern" over numerous serious socio-political and economic issues adversely impacting the lives of children, a charter of demands was submitted to all the political parties by Manipur Alliance for Child Rights (MACR) .
Speaking to mediapersons at Manipur Press Club today, Keisham Pradeepkumar, member of the core committee of MACR said that a 17-point charter of demands was sent to all the political parties urging them to incorporate the proposed demands in their respective party manifesto.
The charter of demands include repealing of AFSPA, drafting and adopting of a comprehensive State child protection policy for preventing and protecting the children from exploitative situations, announcing education completely a free zone, ensuring a strong, fair and good governance, where there is no economic blockade, bandh, counter blockade coming and untimely political intervention.

The demands also include a demand to adopt a standard children's budgeting, allocation of adequate budget provision for children which should be not less than 5% of the total State Budget, to ensure each and every PHC operates 24�7 where institutional delivery with proper pre and post natal care facilities are available, establishment of effective monitoring mechanism to keep a check on child labour violations in small and medium scale industries including agriculture and family based enterprises.
Revival of the Manipur Human Rights Commission by appointing new Members and Chairperson, administrative empowerment to strengthen the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights and State Commission for Women, enactment of appropriate laws to protect the transgender children in conformity with the judgement of the Supreme Court, immediate attention for infrastructural development of schools and setting up of adequate number of Government run residential schools in each and every village were also included in the charter of demands.
