MCPCR takes up suo moto case against rape of minor girl

Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Right (MCPCR) has taken a Suo Moto cognizance in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl for 9 months.
The suo Moto cognizance was taken up as per a news-report appeared at Imphal based daily newspaper the People's Chronicle under the heading "Minor sexually assaulted for 9 months" published on October 21 .
A statement by the member of the MCPCR, L Megharaj Sharma said that the incident as an unfortunate and heinous, that vehemently violated Child Rights, the matter has been taken with extreme seriousness.
As per the report the minor girl was sexually assaulted continuously for several months by the assaulter at Kangpokpi District.
The Commission has directed the district police to investigate the incident and submit a factual action taken report to the Commission.
A team of the Commission comprising of L Megharaj Sharma, Member and Ch Anita Devi, Member visited the victim family at Kangpokpi.
The team also met the JAC formed regarding the above incident at Changangei, Kabui Khun.
Further, the Commission team met representatives from Women Committee United NGO Mission Manipur (UNNM) and ChildLine Kangpokpi.
The Commission directed the Child Welfare Committee, Kangpokpi to take up the case at the earliest as per law considering the best interest of the child and place her in a safe and healthy environment.
