BT statue unveiled at Cong Bhawan

Former Union Minister Bhakta Charan Das, who is also in-charge of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Manipur accused BJP led NDA Government of curbing fundamental rights and diminishing institutional values.
He was attending an observance of the 164th birth anniversary of Bir Tikendrajit at Congress Bhawan.
A statue of Bir Tikendrajit was also unveiled at the event.
Speaking at the event, Bhakta Charan Das charged that the Government has brought back British governance.
The NDA Government has diluted the Constitutional values and fundamental rights of the citizens.
During Congress' time, the Government empowered the RBI (Reserve Bank of India) and the ECI (Election Commission of India) hinting that the NDA has also diluted the values of these institutions.
The farmers on the other hand are now suffering because of the BJP-led NDA Government.
Farmers in large number across the country are protesting the Farm Laws, he said.
Bhakta also stated that Congress respects freedom fighters of every State and region.
Congress' leaders and freedom fighters including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Maulana Azad and Lal Bahadur Shastri had tremendously contributed towards the freedom struggle of India, he said asserting that the BJP had no part in the freedom struggle.
Bir Tikendrajit was a great son of the soil who will be remembered by history, said Bhakta.
CLP leader Okram Ibobi stated that during the UPA Government, the Centre had asked the State to submit names of two freedom fighters and the then Congress Government had submitted the names of Bir Tikendrajit and Rani Gaidinliu giving them National recognition.
In addition, a street in National Capital Delhi was named Bir Tikendrajit Street apart from naming the Bhawan after the freedom fighter.
Also, the Central Congress leaders had taken up initiatives to give Tulihal airport the present name as Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, said Ibobi.
Speaking at the event, veteran Congress leader and a member of CWC, ex-Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that installation of Bir Tikendrajit statue at Congress Bhawan is a proud moment for the party and people as well.
Remembering Thangal General and other freedom fighters, Gaikhangam wished for Congress leaders and workers to trace the path of the freedom fighters.
MPCC president Govindas Konthoujam, vice president Kh Ratankumar and MLA AK Mirabai and other party members attended the event.
