Imphal, November 28 2024:
A public meeting held at Kwakeithel Heinou Khongnembi Ibudhou Nongshaba community hall on Thursday, in connection with arrest of people involved in the November 16 mass protest, demanded that the arrested civilians and meira paibi activists should be released without any condition.
The meeting also adopted various resolutions including withdrawal of the Tiddim line bandh enforced by Irom Pukhrichou Mapan Meira Paibi and clubs, and rescind summons related to the case; ask the government to address the ongoing crisis and work towards restoring peace and normalcy in the state; and urge the government of India to stop its proxy war against Manipur.
In case the resolutions are not honoured and implemented by December 1, widespread agitation including mass court arrest will be launched, resolved the meeting.
Meanwhile, Kanglei People's Confederation (KAPECON), Keishamthong also demanded unconditional release of people arrested in connection with vandalism of houses of MLAs.
In a release by KAPECON convener K London reasoned that public discontentment over government's inability to rescue the six civilians abducted in Jiribam, who were later brutally killed, led to vandalism of the residences of ministers and MLAs.
The public demanded their resignation for failure to protect the citizens, which then escalated to mob damaging their houses, explained the convenor.
While asserting the protestors were not led by any organisation and the attacks were for short duration, thereby demonstrating that the public were only expressing their deep frustration against ministers and MLAs, who are representing them, KAPECON accused the government of harbouring ill-will against agitators in the valley, while undermining the need to arrest Kuki terrorists involved in the Jiribam massacre.
Ministers and MLAs, who are complaining that their houses were looted, should ponder over the plights of Meetei people of Churachandpur and Moreh whose properties worth lakhs have been looted, it prodded.
Clarifying that it does not endorse vandalism and looting of ministers and MLAs houses, the Keishamthong body asked the state government to focus on arresting adversary elements, instead of hounding people involved in the agitation against ministers and MLAs.
