Ukhrul, March 27 2019: In a tragic incident, a blazing inferno gutted three rooms of a primary school destroying property worth of Rs 2-3 lakh.

No casualty was reported in the incident which occurred at Khayang village, Kamjong.

According to the school board chairman of Khayang Upper Primary school, Hormi the fire broke out late in the night while the villagers were asleep.

He said the hostel was constructed with contributions from the villagers for accomodating students coming from neighbouring villages to study at Khayang Upper Primary school.

The fire destroyed three rooms and all the stored commodities, uniforms, and utensils of seven students.

He said, the students are reading in IV- VI classes and the fire has left them devastated.

Immediate assistance from Khayang village has provided them minimum requirements for now.

The villagers of Khayang managed to douse the fire before it could further spread.
