International Widows Day observed

As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, International Widows Day 2021 was observed at Kodompokpi Community Hall organised by District Social Welfare Office, Imphal West today.
International Widows Day 2021 was observed under the theme 'Invisible Women, Invisible Problems'.
Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Th Nandakumar Singh pradhan of Kodompokpi Gram Panchayat appealed to all not to discriminate and stigmatise widows instead concerted efforts should be made for the welfare of widows in the society.
N Binod Singh, District Social Welfare Officer, Imphal West who graced the occasion as the president spoke in detail why the International Widows Day is observed.
He elaborated about the unwanted customs and traditions prevalent in the society against widows and its harmful effects.
He continued that such traditions should be rectified inorder to grant equal status to widows in the society.
Further he stated that there are many welfare schemes for widows and benefits are provided to widows by Social Welfare Department of respective States under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
