5 UGs, one peddler arrested

Imphal, March 26 2012: Five underground cadres of different UG groups have been arrested by the security forces since the last 48 hours while one drug peddler was also arrested along with banned drug items.

In the first instance, troops of 9 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) apprehended one PLA cadre yesterday from Ward No 7 of Moreh, Chandel District, PRO of IGAR (S) claimed in a statement.

The apprehended cadre was identified as SS Captain Ibocha Singh alias Khamba (63) s/o (L) Amu of Ward No 7 Moreh.

One M-20 Pistol with five live rounds was recovered from the him.

Later the troops of the Unit launched operation in Ward No 9 Moreh and apprehended one KYKL cadre yesterdy.

He was identified as M Suresh (25) s/o J Murugeshan of Ward No 2, Moreh.

Two electric detonator, seven 5.56 mm live rounds and six 9 mm live rounds.

Both the apprehendees, along-with the recovered items were handed over to Imphal West Police station, it stated.

Similarly, troops of 42 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched operation in Pallel and apprehended one PREPAK cadre yesterday.

He was identified as Thokchom Nonihel Singh alias Brijon (29) s/o (L) Thokchom Amusingh of Iribung, Imphal East and was handed over to Kakching Police station, it said.

In yet another incident, discovering the transportation of banned drugs along New Heaven of Ukhrul district, troops of 23 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR(South) launched operation in the area and apprehended one drug peddler today.

He was identified as AS Yao Reiwung s/o AS Ruichumhao of Tingui, Ukhrul district.

5 kgs of Opium was recovered from him, the statement added.

Meanwhile, troops of 22 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Red Shield Division on specific information about the presence of Corcom (PLA) cadres in general area Leingongpokpi launched an operation alongwith police representative of Jiribam Police, leading to the arrest of two Corcom (PLA) cadres today, a PIB (DW) statement claimed.

The cadres have been identified as Raghu Singh alias Ingouba (32) son of Tomei Singh of Yairipok village, Imphal East district and Mayana Lembam Ibomcha Singh s/o M Bira Singh of Unchathal, Jiribam.

The cadres have been handed over to Jiribam Police Station, it stated.
