Imphal, February 26 2017: A 7-month old baby girl sustained serious injury after being hit by a tear gas shell on her head this morning at Khundrapam Makha Leikai.

The baby girl was hit by a tear gas shell when police who came to arrest one Maibam Khogen from his residence tried to disperse infuriated locals by firing several rounds of tear gas shells.

It has been reported that a team of Imphal East district commandos after gett- ing a complaint against Mai-nam Khogen for allegedly firing live bullets came to arrest him.

Soon after, a large of number of locals gathered and protested.

A heated argument ensued between the police commandos and locals which resulted in firing of several rounds of tear shells.

Two persons including a 7-month old baby girl sustained injury.

The child is now under treatment at Raj Medicity.
