Imphal, June 25 2021:
The Federation of Government College Teachers' Association (FEGOCTA) and the All Manipur College Teachers' Association have yet again demanded the State Government to immediately issue orders for implementation of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018.FEGOCTA, in a statement, said that the only way to avoid disturbances in the online classes and examinations after June 30 will be issuance of related orders for implementation of the pay and regulation the body has been demanding.
Manipur has created a bad precedent by forcing the 5th FEGOCTA agitation and 4th Cabinet approvals on National policy of UGC since 2019, it said and asked why orders of the 4th Cabinet on UGC policy have not been issued.
The college teachers are performing their duties during Covid pandemic from home and since UGC policy is not an old issue, FEGOCTA will not accept Covid pandemic as an excuse, it said.
The non implementation of UGC policy would only cause further decline in the collegiate education in Manipur, said FEGOCTA while adding that the political and bureaucratic leadership, political parties and all the stakeholders including student organizations have a collaborative role in bringing up quality education.
Blaming and putting all the responsibilities on the college teachers only reflect the attitude towards higher education in Manipur, it said while questioning as to why college teachers are singled out while the 7th Pay has been implemented for other Government employees.
FEGOCTA reminded that a society will never move towards progress, development, peace and change without quality education.
AMCTA, also urged the Government to translate its prior commitments and issue order for implementation of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations before July 10.Their stand to conduct online classes and catering needs of the students may change if the association's call is unheeded, it warned.
