District level convention of ASHAs held

The 4th district level convention of ASHA workers of Bishnupur district was held at Kiyamba Ningshing Shanglen today.
Seven ASHA workers were honoured at the convention in recognition of their contributions towards enhancement of institutional child delivery in the district.
The convention was organized by District Health Society, Bishnupur under the aegis of National Rural Health Mission.
Bishnupur DC Bobby Waikhom, who was the chief guest of the function while speaking at the occasion said that ASHA workers are not only accredited social health activists but also community health volunteers.
Dr Usha, State Nodal Officer of ASHA workers, who was the guest of honour of the function, said that Bishnupur district is one of the best performing districts in the State with respect to ASHA workers.
She said that Manipur registered 10 per cent in Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in 2014 and stood second next to Goa in the National ranking.
However, in 2013, Manipur and Goa were adjudged first together with both the States registering 9 per cent IMR, she added.
Saying that RIMS has IMR of only 70 deaths for every one lakh child births, Dr Usha said that the premier medical institute has met WHO's millennium IMR goal of 7 per cent.
Medical Superintendent of Bishnupur district hospital, Dr H Babichand while speaking at the conference said that the hospital witnessed 771 cases of child delivery last year.
He said that 484 infants were fully immunized in the district hospital last year while 1138 pregnant mothers underwent free ultrasound check-up.
Speaking at the occasion, Kh Budha of ASHA Grievances Redressal Committee put light on the challenges faced by ASHA workers.
A large number of ASHA workers of the district were present at the conference.
ASHA workers' roles and contributions as health activists were appreciated and encouraged by different high ranking officials of the State Health Directorate and district administration, who spoke at the occasion.
