Kangpokpi, June 24 2016 :
The United People's Front (UPF), one of the conglomerates of Kuki UG groups and a signatory to the tripartite political dialogue with the Centre and State Government has strongly decried the arrest of the PSOs of its Chairman PSOs at Hengbung and the subsequent torture of women by personnel of 35 Assam Rifles in the intervening night of June 21-22 .
The UPF in statement signed by its information and publicity secretary, Thanglenlal Doungel said that top brass officials of KNF including its president, ST Thangboi, who is also the chairman of UPF were on an official meeting in connection with the tripartite political talks at Hengbung on June 21 which was eventually disrupted by the Maj Gulati, post commander of 35 AR Hengbung Post by apprehending four PSOs of the UPF Chairman at the meeting place.
He continued that the tripartite political dialogue which began on June 15 at the National capital between the two conglomerates of the Kuki UG groups and the Governments since the signing of tripartite SoO in 2008 was a historic event for the whole Kuki community which is well regarded by the Governments as well.
He also said that the unanticipated and outrageous act of the arrogant Major and his troops is not only unfortunate but also an insult to the significant tripartite political dialogue.
"It is also an insult to the whole Kuki community", he asserted while adding that UPF will not tolerate any insult to the political talks and the Kukis.
The UPF leader also questioned, whether Major Gulati is actually ignorant of the SoO ground rules or he wants to demonstrate his sinister motive to disrupt the current political dialogue.
He further said that it is a shame that there is an Indian army officer who is not well aware of the SoO ground rules in places where the SoO is enforced.
The peace loving UPF in its endeavour to bring peace and lasting solution towards the Kuki political issue had hailed the initiative of the Governments for dialogue and welcomed any constructive suggestions and efforts from all walks of life for a final outcome, said Thanglenlal.
However, at the same time, the UPF will not tolerate any destructive forces which can interrupt the process of the political dialogue, he added.
He also said that the reaction of the womenfolk in protest against the unlawful arrest of the four PSOs is nothing but a manifestation of their support to the ongoing political dialogue for lasting peace while conveying its gratitude for the support and the determination of the womenfolk to solve the vexed Kuki political issue.
It also stated that the UPF vehemently condemns the 'beastly act' upon the innocent women protesters and inflicting severe injuries to scores of women who were admitted at different hospitals at Kangpokpi and Imphal for treatment.
The UPF further said that the lack of respect towards women on the part of Major Gulati is condemnable.
The cruelty and violence towards the frail women by the Major and his troops should be condemned by all, it said while praying for early recovery of the injured women.
The UPF also urged the authority concerned to give fitting punishment to 'arrogant' Major and his personnel involved in inflicting brutal injuries to the womenfolk so as to educate them on the importance of women.
