Irate locals decry incomplete road construction work, warn of intense agitation

Bishnupur, July 23 2024: The irate locals of Wangoo Ahallup Makha Sandangkhong Awang Leikai and Mayai Leikai have cautioned to launch intense agitation if the construction of Sagang Sugnu Road under Kumbi Assembly Constituency is not completed at the earliest.

The locals highlighted that though the construction of Sagang Sugnu Road in Kumbi AC under Bishnupur district which connects Borayangbi Thongkhong to Wangoo Ahallup Makha Leikai via Sandangkhong began in 2020-21 under Package No MNO 171 Phase XI of of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), the road is yet to be black-topped.

Considering inconveniences caused to the residents of the region due to the shabby condition of the road owing to incomplete construction, the members of local clubs, meira paibis and the residents staged a protest today and warned of intense agitation if the construction is not completed at the earliest.

Speaking at the sidelines of the protest, a resident of the region said that the locals of the region in association with the local clubs and organizations extended help to the construction of the road for their convenience and for the overall well-being of the region.

But despite their sincere efforts, the construction remains incomplete with no signs of black topping work for the past few years, she remarked.

She went on to state that the relevant authorities have failed terribly to meet the quality standards and objectives of PMGSY to provide smooth road connectivity among the villages.

She further expressed dismay over the indifference of the Government and relevant authorities towards the problems of the villagers who have been longing for proper road connectivity.

Another aggrieved villager raised questions why the authorities concerned have failed to take up PMGSY work in this region which is not affected by the ethnic conflict.

Expressing dismay that not even a MLA or Minister concerned has visited the area once to check the progress of the construction, the villager denounced such lackadaisical attitude.
