Stir suspended on Minister's request: ATDUM

The All Tribal Disabled Union, Manipur (ATDUM) has said today that the mass rally which was supposed to take place on June 20 in Imphal was temporarily suspended due to the plea made by Social Minister AK Mirabai.
According to ATDUM, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai had invited the representatives of ATDUM on June 19 at 1 pm for discussion regarding the rape case of a 15 years old tribal blind girl which incident happened at Government Ideal Blind School.
Following this invitation, ATDUM Rights Movement Committee met the Social Welfare Minister on June 20 wherein the Minister had requested the ATDUM representatives to relax the rally till June 30, 2014 .
"As per requested by the Honourable Social Welfare Minister AK.
Mirabai, the ATDUM agreed to suspend the mass rally temporarily.
However, if the Social Welfare Minister and the concerned authority do not fulfill the demands within a short period, ATDUM will resort to agitation at any time, it added.
Meanwhile, Rights Movement Committee (RMC) of the All Tribal Disabled Union, Manipur (ATDUM) submitted a memorandum to the Chairperson, All India Congress Committee (AICC), New Delhi, the Governor of Manipur, the Chief Minister of Manipur, the Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, the president, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, the Union Home minister, the Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, the Union Minister of Women and Child Development demanding the removal of A.K.Mirabai as the minister of Social Welfare.
The memorandum also demanded the termination of the service of the Director, Social Welfare, government of Manipur.
It further demanded the termination of the service of the headmistress and Superintendent/Warden, Government Ideal Blind School, Takyelpat, Imphal.
Other demands mentioned in the memorandum are the immediate finalisation of the charge-sheet in respect of the rape case and submit to the competent court within short period; to take up appropriate legal action the rapist Him Bahadur Thapa alias Khansa; to provide for immediate rehabilitation and monetary relief in the form of compensation to the rape victim.
To impose monetary penalty/fine upon the school authority and Social Welfare Department on account of their failure to react instantly addressed and getting the matter delayed by almost two months; to appoint a new warden by replacing the present blind warden as she is incapacitated because of her disability and to provide for a security guard to the said school for the students immediately.
