Jiribam, December 22 2019:
All Jiribam United Club Association (AJUCA) has appealed all to refrain from using 'communal tone' in any issue that might disturb the peaceful co-existence of different communities at Jiribam District.
Speaking to media persons, AJUCA's president, Maipaksana Mangang criticised the All Bengali Youths and Students Organisation (ABYSO) for giving 'communal colour' to the issue of rejecting 950 out of 1000 enrolment applications submitted by Bengali voters by Chief Electoral Officer this year at Jiribam.
Claiming that a news item was published on December 20 edition of Eastern Chronicle that asked the Chief Electoral Commissioner of India, Sunil Arora to give a response regarding the matter within 15 days and even threatened to launch agitation in case the demand is not fulfilled, he added that publication of such news item is very unfortunate as it might mislead the masses.
The news items also mentioned that the Election Commission and Chief Electoral Officer Manipur turned a deaf ears despite their request to look in the matter, he said conveying that inclusion in the voter list or rejection is not based on the ethnic ground but the documents they possess and fulfilment of the criteria laid down by the authority concerned.
Saying that making such claim which might trigger communal conflict at a time when the country is being surrounded by different issues is very unfortunate, he appealed all concerned not to repeat such act in the future.
The press meet held at the office of AJUCA at Babupara Jiribm was also attended by AJUCA Jiribam, vice president Mutum Premchandra Singh, general secretary, N Dharmendra Singh, finance secretary, Y Romen Singh and MSF Jiribam president, A Rajiv Meitei.
