Imphal, March 21 2016:
In the wake of the State Government's purported intention to declare Sadar Hills and Jiribam as full fledged districts before the end of the current term, the Tongjei Maril District Demand Committee (TMDDC) has called an indefinite vehicular bandh along certain highways/roads with effect from the midnight of March 25 demanding creation of a new Tongjei Maril district.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, TMDDC chairman Abon Kamei said that the demand for creation of Tongjei Maril district was there since 20 years back.
The indefinite vehicle bandh would cover Imphal-Jiribam highway, the road leading to Leimatak from Loktak Project and all the areas which would come under the proposed Tongjei Maril district.
The proposed Tongjei Maril district covers 150 villages and their total population is around one lakh, added the TMDDC leader.
