The Nambul River is one of the main rivers which fall into the Loktak Lake, he said.
Apart from cleaning the riverine system and the banks, mass awareness is being created among the people along the river as part of the campaign, he added.
Stating that Chief Minister N Biren Singh has extended assistance to sustain the campaign, he thanked and appreciated the CM for his concern and support.
MKAL convenor Akoijam Ibomcha also said that there is a plan to develop a cherry garden between Heiran-goithong and Hiyangthang along the river.
Deputy Director of Environment and Climate Change, Dr T Brajakumar said climate change, global warming and drinking water problems are issues people are facing today.
These problems need to be studied and addressed in time.
He mentioned that Nambul River section from Iroishemba to Heirangoithong under the Imphal Municipal Corporation is the most polluted section.
But, it is fortunate that people on both sides of the river are coming out and volunteering themselves to clean the river.
People assisting the Government and its projects for cleaning the river would help save the river and the Loktak Lake, he added.
