Juveniles deceivers to face music: Minister

Social Welfare Minister, Ak Mirabai has today said that those involved in deceiving and misleading innocent children would face fitting legal action.
The Minister was addressing the valedictory function of the three-day training programme for members of Child Welfare Committee and Juvenile Justice Board organised jointly by the Social Welfare department and Child Line India Foundation at Bal Bhawan, Khuman Lampak today.
Stating that deceiving and misleading innocent children is a major crime, Social Welfare Minister Ak Mirabai vowed that the department would keep close tab on those people.
She also stated that those misled children should be rescued from and ensured normal life in the future.
Maintaining that children are priceless possession, the Minister urged all concerned to ensure protection to them and they enjoyed their rights.
Pointing out that the department alone could not ensure the protection of children, Ak Mirabai urged the Chairpersons and members of the Child Welfare Committee and Juvenile Justice Board to work sincerely towards the end of justice.
The valedictory function was also graced by Director of Social Welfare, G Seityabati Devi and Commissioner of the department, Letkhogin Haokip as the guest of honour and president respectively.
G Seityabati observed that cooperation to the department from parents increased apart from an increase in instance of child rescue since extensive awareness programme on child rights and protection.
Stating that Child Welfare Committee and Juvenile Justice Board were set up under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000, Seityabati said the two bodies should work in close tandem with the Social
Welfare department.
She added that the chairpersons and members of CWC and JJB have pivotal role to play in the protection of child rights.
She also exuded the WCW members to put forward recommendations to line departments like Health, Labour and Education regarding child rights.
