SUMAN scheme launched in Thoubal

Thoubal deputy commissioner A Subhash Singh on Wednesday launched Surakshit Matriva Aashwasan (SUMAN) Scheme at the premises of the district hospital.
While explaining that the scheme is aimed at increasing the healthcare facilities of women, the DC said in his brief speech that to make the scheme successful we must cooperate with each other.
Among others, ASHA facilitators have an important role to play in mobilising and giving awareness to the public, he said and also urged the doctors and nurses to serve the patient with compassion.
Thoubal CMO Dr Y Nokul Singh deliberated about the importance of the scheme and also elaborated on its benefits.
SUMAN scheme launched nationwide in October 2019 aims to provide dignified and quality healthcare service at no cost to every woman and newborn visiting a public
health facility.
The scheme focuses on assured delivery of maternal and newborn healthcare services encompassing wider access to free and quality services, zero tolerance for denial of services, assured management of complications along with respect for women's autonomy, dignity, feelings, choices and preferences, etc.
The beneficiaries visiting public health facilities are entitled to several free services such as four antenatal check-ups, six home-based newborn care visits, one checkup during the 1st trimester, Iron Folic Acid supplementation and at least one checkup under (PMSMA- Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan) .
The launch programme was also attended by District Hospital MS Dr Ch Memcha Devi, Child Health SHS NHM Manipur SNO Dr A Sylvia and ASHA facilitators.
