Imphal, May 20 2018:
Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), atrade union has urged the State Government to formulate an employment policy which can cater to the need of the workers in the State, including enhancement of the minimum wages of workers/labourers and provide proper social security for the workers.
Addressing media persons at the office of BMS, Manipur State Unit at Keishampat today, B Surendran, organizing secretary, BMS, New Delhi, demanded both the State Government and the Central Government to cons ider the grievances of the workers in the State, like ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and midday meal workers.
Urging the Central and State Government to convert the Anganwadi .scheme into a permanent scheme and absorb the Anganwadi workers as permanent employees, he explained that Anganwadi workers and ASHA workers have been given meagre honorarium in the State despite their hectic work.
Asserting that the State has rich potential for small scale industries like agro-based, bamboo based and food-processing industries, Surendran asked the State Government to work out an appropriate employment policy that will be able to cater to the needs of the workers/labourers in the State and ensure social security as well.
The State Government must think of creating an employment policy seriously by considering the plight of the workers, particularly the Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and Midday meal workers.
The State will also be able to tap into the rich potential for small scale industries, apart from generating employment for a large number of local people, if there is an appropriate employment policy in the State, he said.
Informing that the 4th Manipur State Conference for BMS was held at GM Hall today, he maintained that several issues faced by the workers and ways to address these issues were discussed at length during the conference.
16 trade unions and 450 delegates from 11 districts participated in the conference despite the inconvenience caused by the general strike called in the State, he added.
