Imphal, January 20 2013 :
All the people living in Manipur should be given equal rights and opportunities, stated AMUCO president KT Rahaman.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of a village-level football tournament at Longa Koireng ground today, the AMUCO president asserted that differences as well as divergent aspirations between different ethnic communities of Manipur can be narrowed considerably if all the people, irrespective of their ethnicity are given equal rights and opportunities.
People of all the 36 ethnic groups should be given equal opportunities in terms of education, employment and implementation of Government schemes.
There is no valid ground for the allegation that the share meant for hill people has been usurped by plain people.
Nonetheless, it is quite possible that funds sanctioned under Tribal Welfare Department are misappropriated by tribal people who have made their settlement in the valley.
The Government of Manipur need to pay special attention to this gap, notion and misinformation.
Even as tribal people are entitled to quota system like in education and employment, tribal employees are not willing to go their places of posting if it happens to be interior areas.
Apart from KT Rahaman, the closing ceremony was also attended by YAS Assistant Director S Amutonbi, Maklang Gram Panchayat Pradhan Oinam Tondon Devi and Longa Koireng Youth Club chairman W Khelrang Koireng as presidium members.
The final match played today between Longa Koireng Youth Club and Best Friends Club, Awang Khunou was won by the latter via penalty shoot-out 0-3 .
