Rs 1.72 cr collected in two months by Excise Department

The State Excise Department has collected Rs 1.72 crore as revenue within the first two months of the current fiscal year (April and May) .
This was informed by Excise Assistant Commissioner K Jayantakumar after disposing off Indian Made Foreign Liquors (IMFLs) worth around Rs two lakhs which were handed over to Excise by Imphal West District Police.
He said that Excise Department collected Rs 83 lakhs as excise duty and another Rs 1.90 lakh as compound fee in April this year.
In May, the department collected Rs 85 lakh as excise duty and Rs 2.17 lakh as compound fee.
The revenue collection is higher this time as the department collected Rs 1.51 crore during the same months last year.
The IMFLs disposed off today were seized from an illicit liquor shop from Thangal Bazar by Imphal West District Police.

The seized IMFLs were handed over to Excise Department through City Police.
Altogether 492 beer bottles, 16 number of can beers, 156 full-bottles of whisky and rum, 141 half-bottles of whisky and rum and 73 quarter-bottles of liquor were destroyed today.
Two brothers Rajesh and Raju were also pulled up together with the IMFLs.
But the two brothers have been released after extracting a fine of Rs 20,000 .
On the other hand, City Police handed over 30 different cases to the Excise Department over 30 different cases to the Excise Department in May.
Out of these 30 cases, Excise Department collected revenue of Rs 25,900.Counting today's fine of Rs 20,000, the department has collected Rs 45,900.Without the help of police, Excise staff face lot of difficulties which carrying out raids against intoxicating substances, said Assistant Commissioner K Jayantakumar.
Lamphel SDPO H Balram and City PS OC RK Tejbir were also present when the IMFLs were disposed off by setting them afire.
