Hi-Tech Banana award

Late Gaurai Hi-Tech Banana Award 2013 has been conferred on staff reporter of 'Kangla Pao', Soibam Maniton of Arapti Lilong Mapal.
The award carries Rs 51,000, a citation and a memento.
The award was conferred on Maniton in recognition of his valuable contribution and promotion of modern hi-tech agricultural techniques and efficient agricultural practices including tissue culture and drip irrigation in banana cultivation in the hill areas of Manipur.
The award was handed over to him by the Agriculture Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Khadse at International Conference on Dynamics of Technology for Quality Production of Banana.
The conference was held under the aegis of Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd and Bhavarlal and Kantabai Jai Multipurpose Foundation at Jain Hills, Jalgaon, Maharashtra on March 15 .
A total of 14 individuals were selected for the Hi-Tech Banana award this year and Maniton is the only awardee from the North East region.
Speaking at a reception ceremony held at the office of 'Kangla Pao', Maniton said that he started banana plantation in 2008 after he received 500 banana saplings from the State Horticulture Department.
He expressed gratitude to the Department for extending support to him.
Besides being a journalist, Maniton is also the working president of Kanglei Economic Development Organisations (KEDO) .
