Miss Kut decries crime against women

Expressing serious concern over alarming incidents of crime and violence against women and children in the state Miss Kut 2013 winner Lhingjanei Kipgen today stressed on urgent steps to check the social malaise.
Speaking at her residence at Hengbung village Lhingjanei asserted that inspite of crime against women and children being one of the most widespread and pervasive violations of human rights in the world, such criminal acts are the least prosecuted crimes and poses the greatest threats to lasting peace and development.
"Now the time has come to address this urgent matter and it is time on the part of the general public join together to advance human rights, democracy and the common values of humanity", noted the Miss Kut adding that it is the time to initiate stronger and better action on the part of the Government.
She continued that crime against women and children has tremendous negative impacts on communities, nations and societies and serious headache for the law enforcement agencies.
If crime against women and children is left unaddressed, these human rights violations pose serious consequences for current as well as future generations in addition to threatening peace and security, and impeding the millennium development goals, observed, Lhingjanei, whom her parents fondly call Neinu.
Expressing that rights of women and children to live as free citizens depend on protection of their human rights and a strong chain of justice, she said countries or states that enact and enforce laws on violence against women and children have negligible cases, she said while strongly stressing on immediate response, coordinated and effective legal actions to ensure justice is not denied to the victims.

Therefore, it vital to address the root causes of gender inequality and discrimination.
Economic empowerment is the most important and the best preventive strategy, asserted Neinu before adding that it is also vital to promote a culture of equality between men and women through institutional and legal reform, education, awareness with full involved of men and boys.
The Miss Kut 2013 beauty pageant title holder while sensitively talking on women empowerment asserted that around the world, healthy, educated, employed and empowered women break poverty cycles-not only for themselves, but for their families, communities and the countries too.
Empowered women have a truly transformative role to play in their communities but they are rarely accorded the opportunity to allow them fulfil their enormous potential, added the Miss Kut.
