Imphal, December 18 2021:
Certain individuals have 'fraudulently' taken a loan amounting to Rs 81.60 lakh from the Central Bank of India in the name of 17 locals of Thingba Khullen, Senapati district without their consent.
The locals whose names were used for taking the loan came to know of the loan only after the Central Bank of India, Senapati Branch sent a notice in their names on October 15 demanding repayment of the loan with interest.
Regarding the matter, two of the people whose names were used for the fraudulent activity lodged a complaint to the Senapati police.
As per the complainants, they came across details of distributing Rs 4.80 lakh each to the 17 locals of Thingba Khullen on March 16, 18, 19 and May 26, 2015 as loans at the bank.
As the loan amount was not repaid, the account became a non performing asset (NPA) on June 30, as per the complainants.
The amount which the bank is asking for repayment is about Rs 1.18 crore, they said.
Saying that one R Yuh Jonathan (61) from Oinam village presented some pineapple saplings to 17 of them along with Rs 10,000 each in August 2015 in the name of certain Government scheme, the complainants said that the 17 of them didn't open any account at Central Bank of India, Senapati Branch.
The accounts at the bank were opened with forged documents and signatures, the complainants said and urged the authority concerned to enquire against R Yuh Jonathan and then Branch Manager of CBI Senapati, Aithing Guite to reveal the truth.
