Imphal, November 18 2011:
Tamenglong District Horticulture & Soil Conservation Department organised farmers' training cum distribution of winter crop seeds programme at Khongsang village under Nungba sub-divisional headquarters on November 11, 12 and 13 .
Farmers from Nungba, Tousem and Tamenglong areas, who attended the three-day programme, were provided garden pea, onion, cabbage and tomato seeds.
Organised under the sponsorship of Technology Mission Cell of Horticulture Technology Mission in North East (MM-II) the programme was attended by District Officer (Hort & Soil Cons.) N Tomba and village chairman G Adun as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Addressing the gathering, the District Officer noted that Tamenglong district had been lagging behind in producing vegetable items compared to other districts.
Calling upon the farmers for more concerted effort to enhance productivity, he, however, regretted that due to paltry fund allocation by the parent department distribution of seeds could not cover more farmers.
Tomba also affirmed that he would personally apprised department authorities for increasing the fund allocation to facilitate extensive coverage of the district farmers in the coming years.
Speaking at the occasion, Tousem sub-division Horticulture Development Officer H Nabashyam presented a detailed account on the method of scientific farming of the crop seeds distributed to the farmers.
The crop seeds were handed over to 14 village chiefs/authorities for further distribution to the farmers of Nungba, Tousem and Tamenglong areas.
