Imphal, September 18 2015 :
This is rather disheartening that some leaders have been spewing venom among hill people against the three Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31.The three Bills were passed to protect all the indigenous people of the land and they are not against any community, asserted JCILPS convenor-in-charge Ratan Khomdram.
Speaking at the golden jubilee celebration of the Young Organising Club, Kodompokpi Maning Leikai, Ratan remarked that any conspiracy to disintegrate Manipur on the pretext of opposing the Bills is not advisable.
The three Bills would not harm the interest of any community.
They were drafted with a view to protect all the indigenous people of the land.
Even though the Bills have been passed, a restive situation has gripped the State.
Uproar against the three Bills as witnessed in hill areas has turned out to be a serious setback to the common aspiration of the people.
The uproar has put all the three Bills in a serious predicament.
No community or organisation raised any objection when the three Bills were drafted but the situation changed dramatically soon after the Bills were passed.
This has evoked a strong sense of suspicion.
The Bills would definitely be for the good of all the indigenous communities of Manipur.
The Bills were recommended by the all political parties' committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam as chairman after taking opinions and suggestions from the masses over a period of six months.
Leaders of all communities were consulted before the Bills were tabled in the State Assembly, Ratan said.
Non-local population of the State has crossed 10 lakh according to 2011 Census report.
All the indigenous people need to ponder collectively on what would be the demographic profile of Manipur once Imphal figures in the country's railway map, he said.
He also appealed to all leaders of different political parties to work collectively in the larger interest of the masses with the right dose of political will after leaving aside all their differences.
Social worker S Manaoton was also present at the golden jubilee celebration.
