Imphal, August 18 2018:
The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has decried the State Government's decision to hold back a special session of the State Assembly indefinitely after it was first scheduled on August 10, and then deferred to August 16, and termed the decision of the Government as inconsiderate regarding the Framework Agreement and protection of the State's integrity.
The UCM asked the State Government to lead all the political parties and take a collective responsibility to protect the State from the looming threat posed by the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talk.
Addressing a press meet held today at their Lamphelpat office, UCM president Sunil Karam said that the State Government's justification that it finally decided to hold back the proposed State Assembly session indefinitely which was supposed to be held on August 16 as nothing related to the Framework Agreement has been tabled in the Parliament was illogical and immature.
He observed that the situation is very critical for the State since the GoI and NSCN (IM) are engaged in hectic negotiations to work out a solution to the 21 years old political dialogue and the dialogue process has been constantly challenging the integrity of the State since the day it began.
He also condemned the State Government's inaction saying that the Government should take key-role in pressuring the GoI not to take any decision or frame policy that may harm the State's interest.
Asking whether there is any harm in holding an Assembly Session just for one day, the UCM president also pointed out that there is a need for repeatedly reminding the GoI that the State Government, all the 60 legislators of the State, political parties as well as the people of Manipur oppose any solution that harm may the State's interest, like division in administrative affairs on the basis of community.
He asked the State Government to take a key-role in adopting a collective stand of all the legislators and political parties to protect the State from any move of the GoI and NSCN (IM) which may prove detrimental to the collective interest of the State.
"The UCM and people of Manipur do not oppose the peace talk and any solution worked out between GoI and NSCN-IM, but we will not accept anything that may harm the State's interest," he reiterated.
Informing that an officer of Manipur Police entered the premises of the organization and clicked photos without saying anything on August 14, Sunil also condemned the act of the police personnel and demanded the authority concerned and State Government to clarify on the act of the police personnel.
