Dimapur, December 17 2013:
Amidst fast rising criminal activities along Dimapur-Imphal road or National Highway 2, the All India Tribal Students' Association (AITSA) Delhi and the Mongoloid Peoples Forum (MPF) have said that the government of Nagaland and the Manipur government should see that commuters are not harassed or looted while travelling.
In a joint statement issued to Newmai News Network last night in Dimapur, AITSA and MPF said the excessive increase of the price of flight tickets has compelled so many people including women and child from Manipur working and studying in the mainland cities to travel by railway and road journeys on their way home through the National Highway 2 .
"As the situation in Manipur and Nagaland are slowly limping back to peace, every right thinking people, social organization, the state governments and the various armed organizations ought to ensure that the seemingly peaceful environment is no more disrupted by all means.
Without the proactive role of the civil societies and the participation of the local social organizations, the lone effort of the governments will not be able to secure a safe and comfortable journey while travelling through the highway," the statement said.
