Grand welcome accorded to freed teachers, students

The teachers and students of Manipur University who were released from Sajiwa Central Jail, were accorded a grand welcome by a large number of people today.
After getting information that the arrested individuals would be released, MU community, leaders of various CSOs and people began gathering in front of Sajiwa Central Jail from the afternoon.
The teachers and students were finally released at around 6 pm after completion of all due processes and procedures and they were warmly received by the people with garlands and slogans of 'Long Live MU' .
They were officially received at an event organised at Lamyanba Shanglen by six student organisations and later at MU Centenary Hall as well.
Speaking to media persons, MUSU president M Dayaman said that the release of the arrested individuals as well as the agreement reached with the State Government will go a long way in bringing back normalcy to the university.
He mentioned that from August 23 to September 20, a sort of normalcy had returned to the university before Prof K Yugindro and Prof M Shyamkesho came to take charge as the VC i/c and Registrar i/c respectively.
The university came under a lockdown again following the midnight raid of September 20, Dayaman said and expressed belief that the lockdown will be lifted by tomorrow.
However, the investigation against former VC Prof AP Pandey by the two men Independent Inquiry Committee is still pending, he said and assured that MU community will offer every possible support and cooperation to the Administrator and the inquiry committee in the future.
