Global Hand-washing Day is designed to foster and support a global and local culture of hand-washing with soap and raise awareness about the benefits of hand-washing.
Everyone can protect themselves, their families, and their communities through hand-washing with soap.
It requires few resources, soap and a small amount of water yet the benefits are huge, stated Swamikanta.
Hand-washing with soap should be practised regularly, such as after using the toilet or before contact with food, it can dramatically reduce the risk of diarrhoea and pneumonia, which can cause serious illness and death, he added.
Hand-washing with soap also helps prevent the spread of various infectious diseases.
Lalitbabu said that students should play a key role in spreading the awareness of sanitation and its benefits so that the message reaches the common masses.
