Murder case of Lungnila Elizabeth : Final hearing on 3 consecutive days

Session Judge Imphal West fixed July 30, 31 and August 1, for the argument hearing in connection with baby Lungnila Elizabeth murder trial against N Rame, James Kuki and Thokchom Nando.
The date for the continuous argument hearing of the case was fixed today by the Court and during the proceeding, N Rame (who is presently out on bail) was present before the Court but James Kuki (who is presently lodged in judicial custody at Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa) was not produced.
It may be mentioned that during the trial of the case, on March 26, Thokchom Nando escaped from JNIMS male ortho ward where he was kept for medical treatment following an ailment in the spine.
He had been admitted on November 26 last year and had also undergone an operation on February 18 this year.
Following his escape, the Court had issued non bailable warrant of arrest against him based on a prayer by the CBI and the State police have also declared a reward of Rs 1 lakh to anyone who can provide information leading to his arrest.
It may be mentioned that then 8 year old Lungnila Elizabeth, daughter of then Minister Francis Ngajokpa, was kidnapped by some unknown individuals from in front of her school gate (Little Flower School) on November 4, 2003 and her highly decomposed body was found inside a sack at Tera Sadokpam Leikai on November 12, triggering mass protest.
The case began from February 6, 2008, onwards after the investigating agency, CBI, submitted a charge sheet against Thokchom Nando, James Kuki alias Letkhosei Haokip, A Rame and O Deben in connection with the case.
During the course of the trial, O Deben passed away.
