Imphal, June 16 2021:
The 20th Great June Uprising and Unity Day Observance Committee has appealed all to observe the historic day of June 18 at homes.
In a video clip released in this regard, the chairman of the observation committee, Pheiroijam Nando Luwang said that the 20th edition of the observation could not be held on a large scale as earlier due to the Covid pandemic.
In the wake of the restrictions imposed there will be no big gathering or function at Kekrupat to pay homage to those who were martyred on June 18 of 2001 during the protest movements against the infamous 'Bangkok Declaration' of June 14 .
However, only few CSO representatives will offer homage and prayers with strict observation of Covid related SOPS, he said while appealing all to observe the day at household level and commemorate the martyrs who had laid down their lives for the territorial integrity of the State.
AMUCO president, Nando Luwang also recalled the 'Bangkok Declaration' signed between the India Government and NSCM (IM) to extend ceasefire without territorial limit and the subsequent mass movements against the declaration.
The committee is all set to observe the day, though it will be a low event, said Nando while expressing regret that Covid has hindered the big observation yet again.
Even as all could not be part of the observation, the committee would like to appeal to all to observe the day and pay homage at homes by playing songs dedicated to the martyrs, he said while urging all to keep affirming the pledge for unity.
