Senapati, March 16 2016:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has announced to go ahead with its proposed 15 hours total bandh in all Naga tribal districts from midnight of March 17 .
The UNC said that the bandh will be relaxed for officials and students appearing the Class X exam students and officials on duty.
The UNC is calling the bandh in support of the JAC against Anti-Tribal Bills' which called for a total shutdown as a mark of 200th day of sorrow and unrelenting struggle' for justice and tribute to the 9 'tribal martyrs' .
According to the UNC, the three 'anti tribal' Bills passed by the Manipur State Assembly on August 31, 2015 was followed by sudden spontaneous uproars by the tribals in the "present" state of Manipur were a culmination of the rage and resentment felt against decades of subjugation, marginalization and oppressive policies of the "communal" Government of Manipur towards the indigenous tribal people.
The UNC warned that any organization or individual attempting to violate or suppress the tribal's democratic agitation will be dealt befittingly.
The UNC is aware that certain agencies and organizations are creating opportunities and efforts to undermine such agitation and aspirations of the tribals and Nagas of Manipur but the UNC will stand firm with its decision and wishes of the people.
The UNC has appealed to the general public to strictly adhere to the total bandh and demonstrate its solidarity to the ongoing tribal movement in Manipur.
Media, fire service, medical emergency and matric exam purposes will be exempted from the purview of the bandh, it said.
