Imphal, July 15 2019: The State Government has suspended the Imphal Municipal Corporation for a period of 6 months with immediate effect.

A notice issued by the Joint Secretary MAHUD, today mentioned that the State Government examined the report of the Local Fund Audit of January 14 regarding the Special Audit Inspection conducted on IMC and accordingly issued a show cause notice to IMC on July 3, directing the body to provide an explanation and clarification regarding various financial irregularities, violation of guidelines, diversion of funds, irregularities in installation of solar lamps etc.

It continued that IMC submitted a para wise explanation on July 9 but the said reply was found to have no satisfactory explanation.

Explaining that the Government is of the opinion that IMC is not competent and has exceeded and abused its power, the notice said that the IMC is suspended for 6 months with immediate effect.
