Imphal, December 14 2020:
Agriculture Department has succeeded in producing 1400 metric tonnes of organic chakhao (black aromatic rice) this season, according to Agriculture Minister O Lukhoi.
Speaking to media persons at the Nityaipat Chuthek office of BJP Manipur Pradesh today, Lukhoi claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, acknowledging the several farmers welfare schemes taken up in the State, conferred the Krishi Karman Award to the State Government in January this year.
Two progressive farmers of the State were also honoured with the same award, he said.
Apart from producing 1400 MT of chakhao, Agriculture Department was able to harvest 9800 MT of HYV paddy which were cultivated using organic methods, Lukhoi said.
He informed that the department has been working to raise the number of farmer-producer companies from the existing six.
Altogether 5,82,701 farmers of the State were registered under the PM Kisan Scheme and Rs 6000 each had been transferred to their bank accounts, said the Agriculture Minister.
He went on to claim that agricultural areas under double cropping saw a significant expansion during the last couple of years.
BJP Manipur Pradesh chief spokesperson Ch Bijoy said that the farm Bills introduced by the Modi-led
Central Government would double farmers' income and the new farm laws would make free trade accessible to all farmers.
These laws provide several marketing options to farmers and will do away with the practice of selling farmers' produces through agricultural produces marketing committees.
As the farmers would not need these committees to sell their produces, middlemen who have close nexus with the committees will not be able to charge any commission, Bijoy said.
Under the new farm laws, farmers would be able to sell their produces directly to cold storages at the prices they fixed.
In another word, the new farm laws have liberated the farmers of the country, said the spokesman.
