Lamka, November 14 2013:
Against the backdrop of the State Government initiating the process for recruitment of Peons and Chowkidars for ADCs, Churachandpur ADC Chairman, Langkhanpau Guite today made an appeal against payment of bribes for the post as it would not be worthy of it.
The Chairman said that he had heard that some people were trying to sell their properties to bribe for the post of Peon or chowkidar but warned them from doing so as the appointment will only be on a contract basis which may just last a year or two.
'It is very likely that one may never recover their expenses from the salary if they choose to bribe anyone at all,' he said while addressing the closing ceremony of 6th Seikam Memorial Tournament at Kholmun village.
He added that the decision whether to pay bribe or not is upto the individual, but insisted that neither him nor other ADC members should be blamed if the engagement just ended abruptly after a year.
He also expressed surprise on the response the recruitment exercise has drawn as he claimed he had seen the names of spouses or children of many influential people.
Clarifying that Peons or Chowkidars will be recruited to clean the schools run by ADCs; swept the floor of cow-dung or cut the campus grass to ward off snakes, he said it would be advisable that only those who are willing to do that job and are ready to be posted anywhere should only apply.
On a lighter vein, he told the crowd that it would be a step in the right direction if some of them could withdraw their application.
The Chairman had a few days back made similar appeal through the local media, cautioning them of paying bribes or from gambling their property with the Peon or Chowkidar posts.
