MDA appeals Governor for lower airfares

The Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) has submitted a five-point memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla appealing for a reduction in prices of flight tickets as travelling along the National Highways is not possible due to the ongoing conflict.
Speaking to media persons during a press briefing held at Babupara Dr M Tombi, convenor, MDA and president, Shiv Sena Manipur Unit said that representatives of MDA met with the Manipur Governor yesterday at Raj Bhavan and submitted the memorandum.
They also had a detailed discussion on the protracted conflict which erupted on May 3, 2023 .
The charter of demands listed in the memorandum include - making arrangement for deployment of adequate security personnel along NH-37 and NH-102 to allow free movement of people along these highways; lower air fares so long as people cannot move freely along the national highways; expedite the fencing of Indo-Myanmar border; implement NRC in Manipur for detection of illegal immigrants and rehabilitation of over 65,000 people internally displaced by the crisis.
MDA also called for the withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 from the State.
Stating that the goal of MDA is restoration of peace, he said that the Alliance will extend full cooperation with the State Government in this endeavour.
He also urged different political parties to put aside their differences and focus on the common goal of peace for Manipur.
Dr M Tombi also appealed against arresting and filing of FIRs against village volunteers as they not are anti-India but simply protecting their land.
Salam Joy, vice-chairman, MDA was also present at the press briefing.
