Seminar by Vector borne Disease Control Society

A three-day seminar on 'Review of Implementation of Global Fund-supported IMCP-II in Seven North Eastern States' organised by Manipur State Vector Borne Disease Control Society commenced from today at Nirmala Hotel, MG Avenue.
As chief guest, Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing stated that effective preventive measures taken up by the Health and Family Welfare Department has succeeded in bringing down cases of vector borne diseases.
Contrary to the Department recording 7824 malaria cases prior to 1994, the infection rate came down to 91 in 2007 while in the current year only three cases of Dengue could be detected, said the Minister, and asserted that inspite of the decline there should be no let up in the preventive effort.
Accepting that despite successful prevention of outbreak of vector borne diseases timely clearance of salary to the personnel engaged in combating the disease could not be guaranteed in the last few months, Phungzathang declared that the problem would be sorted out within this year.
Health Services Director Dr A Bijoy Singh in his address expressed strong optimism that detailed study about trend of vector borne disease outbreak in the North East region would be able to effectively tackle the problem.
The seminar would also facilitate personnel engaged in controlling the disease to work with more efficiency, he said.
Joint Director (NVBDCP) Dr Avdhesh kumar also attended the seminar's inaugural function.
During the technical session, Additional Director (NVBDCP) Dr GS Sonal presented a paper on 'Achieving malaria pre-elimination status by 2017 in NE States' and Dr Avdhesh Kumar on 'Assessment of the performance of State and District Consultants'.
In open discussions, Dr HG Thakur was the moderator on the subject 'Quality improvement in recording and reporting of data, operationalisation of NAMMIS' while Dr MM Joshi was the moderator for the topic 'Operationalisation and quality control, completeness and timeliness of reporting from sentinel sites' .
