Army operation against UDLF (B) at Karimganj

Guwahati, October 13 2012:
Friday early morning at around 5:30 am, a joint operation was conducted against United Democratic Liberation Front (Break away), UDLF (B) insurgents by the 33rd field regiment of the Indian Army and Assam police.
The operation was held at ghudgudi hill areas in makumtila, 200 Km away from Hailakandi, under Ratabari PS in Karimganj
district.
Acting on intelligence input, from last night the Army and Assam police started their operation against UDLF (B).
A member of the group Montu riang alias Sree monfa was killed on the spot, and another member Bidhuram riang was arrested, he is a resident of Manaki chora in Barak valley.
The Army and Police recovered a .22 mm rifle, a hand grenade, 2 nos 12 bore pistol, 7 rounds of live ammunition along with 3 cell phones.
The outfits main objective are extorting money from various business people whether small or big, government employee and even villagers from forest areas of Assam-Mizoram border, Assam-Tripura border, karimganj, lala, hailakandi and other remote
areas.
Top leader of UDLF (B) Dhanyaram riang is leading the organization for the last 9 years.
The bottom-line is the riang tribes are Tripura-based refugee who were discarded from there and later sought refuge in Mizoram's hilly areas but were thrown again away.
Left with no option the riang picked up arms to fight the government
and security forces.
They have been appealing the government to take note to the problems of the riang community but the government is paying no heed.
The riang area is severely underdeveloped with no access to basic amenities including medical, educational, transportation etc.
