Statue of Tongbram Shabi unveiled

Observing the second Nupi Lan today by League of Callow Patriots, a statue of Nupi Lan 1939 leader Tongbram Shabi was unveiled at Wangkhem Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.
The programme was graced by Yaiskul AC MLA Elangbam Chand Singh, Director of DIPR, Manipur Meghachandra Kongbam, Director, IMC Ward No 20 Corporator L Tombi Devi, Ward Development Member of IMC Ward No A Boby Devi and League of Callow Patriots president Dr L Thoithoi Singh as presidium members.
Speaking at the programme, MLA Elangbam Chand Singh said that first and second Nupi Lan are considered as one of the most important movements in the history of Manipur.
The courage of Manipuri women is being talked about by many across the world.
In the second Nupi Lan 1939, Tongbram Shabi undertook the movement from Ningthem Pukri Mapal and her role should not be forgotten by all.
"Unveiling her statue in such a memorable and historical place will certainly help to preserve our history," the MLA said.
Meghachandra Kongbam said that Ningthem Pukhri Mapal is the right place to unveil Tongram Shabi's statue.
Though years will pass by, people both young and old alike will remember her great courage and contribution during the second Nupi Lan.
On the other hand, the 77th Nupi Lan was observed alongside a one day legal awareness programme at Ibudhou Chengjel Naral Panganba Shanglen, Keisamthong Elangbam Leikai today.
The programme was organised by Keisamthong Elangbam Leikai Meira Paibi Lup, Youth Progressive Athletic Club (YPAC) and Manipur Human Resource Development Association (MHRDA) .
The programme was also attended by Lamkhanpao Tonsing, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, N Basanti Devi, president, Keisamthong Elangbam Leikai Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and other local leaders.
