Imphal, November 12 2015:
Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has slammed the State Government for planning to organise the "Orange Festival" without any specific fund allocation from the State Government exchequer.
The festival will be held on December 9 in Tamenglong District headquarters.
In a statement, ZYF President Titus Kamei alleged that the festival has been celebrated every year in the last ten years without any specific fund allocation from the State Government.
He said the festival was dependent on donations and contributions from different departments and individuals under the initiative of the horticulture department and termed this as "shameful".
He said that the festival was being celebrated while completely neglecting to orange production in the district.
Kamei alleged that "there is no renovation or beautification of any structures in the district and even the roads in the district headquarters was in deplorable conditions while pointing out the hectic preparations for the Sangai festival to be held in Imphal.
He said Kangla Moat is undergoing beautification works with huge amount of money costing more than Rs 6 crore.
Departments such as Tourism, PWD, MAHUD, PDA, Power etc are some of the major departments actively involved in holding the Sangai festival with many contractors and firms earning huge profits.
ZYF also alleged that Chief Minister O Ibobi's portrayal of himself as an impartial leader falls flat as in reality the hill districts continue to reel under underdevelopment.
