Shija hosts 27th annual conference of ASI, Manipur State Chapter

The 27th Annual Conference of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), Manipur State Chapter, was held from October 11 to 13, 2024 at Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS), Imphal.
According to a release issued by Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI), the event brought together renowned surgeons from across India for discussions, presentations, and workshops focused on enhancing surgical excellence.
It was organised under the leadership of Dr N Somorjit Singh as the Organising Chairman, Dr Devendra Khwairakpam as the Organising Secretary, and Dr Chandragupta Chongtham as the Co-Organising Secretary.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by prominent dignitaries, including Dr O Sanahanbi Devi, Director of Health Services, Government of Manipur; Dr Kh Palin, Chairman and Managing Director of SHRI & SAHS; Dr Bhanwar Lal Yadav, Treasurer of ASI Headquarters and Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam, Chairman of ASI, Manipur State Chapter as presidium members.
Delegates from across India participated in the conference, including Dr Jayanta Kumar Das, Senior Consultant at Nazareth Hospital, Shillong and Dr Suraja NV from Saroja Hospital, Thrichur.
The pre-conference workshop featured live surgery broadcasts from Shija Hospitals' OT Complex to the SAHS Auditorium, showcasing realtime surgical techniques.
The conference also included poster presentations by postgraduate and DNB students from Manipur's medical institutions, oral presentations, and a panel discussion.
The Prof NB Singh Best Paper Award session was also part of the event.
Dr Bhanwar Lal Yadav delivered the Late Dr Hawaibam Lal Mohan Singh Memorial Oration on "Safe Techniques in Common Laparoscopic Surgeries" while Dr Jayanta Kumar Das presented the Late Dr Wahengbam Motilal Singh Memorial Oration on "Innovative Techniques for Safe Surgery".
During the inaugural ceremony, a souvenir was released and Dr Deepak Chingtham provided an overview of the ASI Manipur Chapter's activities.
Dr Kh Palin emphasized the importance of quality assurance certifications, such as NABH, for patient safety.
Dr Bhanwar Lal Yadav congratulated the Manipur Chapter for being named the Best State Chapter for 2023.Dr O Sanahanbi Devi announced that Manipur has been recognized as the best emerging State for organ donation and transplantation while Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam highlighted the efforts toward safer surgery.
Dr Devendra Khwairakpam proposed the vote of thanks.
This year's ASIMANICON not only facilitated the exchange of knowledge but also strengthened the shared commitment to excellence in surgery.
The discussions focused on safer surgical outcomes and innovations that uphold the highest ethical standards in patient care.
