Bishnupur, June 12 2024:
The casual staff, daily wage and muster roll employees of Moirang Municipal Council (MMC) have suspended the cease work strike which began on June 6 demanding the release of nine months pending salary.
Subsequently, the workers have resumed the work of collecting garbage and cleaning under the Moirang Municipal Council.
It may be noted that the said workers were on a cease work strike and locked the gates of the council protesting against the non-release of their nine months pending salary.
The cease work strike has been suspended after reaching an agreement during a meeting held today with Moirang AC MLA Thongam Shanti and Executive Officer Moirang Municipal Council K Chadrakumar today.
The workers started cleaning the piled up garbage and will start door to door collection of wastes and other related cleaning activities from tomorrow.
Speaking about the suspension of the cease work strike, one of the staff informed that, 'The decision to suspend the cease work strike was taken since the Moirang AC MLA assured to release the pending salaries of nine months within ten days'.
The staff further cautioned that the workers will stage intense forms of agitation if the said assurance is not fulfilled within the given time frame.
Aggrieved over the indifference of the authorities concerned over the plights of the workers, they have been compelled to launch the cease work strike, he added.
It is worth noting that the residents under Moirang Municipal Council were facing inconveniences owing to the cease work strike leading to accumulation of garbage mainly at Moirang Municipal Council Ward no 12, Moirang Keithel, Moirang Lamkhai and so on.
In view of the inconveniences faced by the residents, Moirang Keithel remained shut yesterday.
