Committee urges Dept concerned to make Oinam Water Supply Scheme functional

Drawing the attention of the concerned department as well as the Govt, Oinam Hemanta, Convenor of Action Committee for Drinking Water, Oinam while speaking to the media persons in a press meet said that the committee is all set to launch various forms of agitation in view of the hardships faced by the residents of Oinam village due to the failure of Oinam Water Supply Scheme to provide adequate water for so many years.
He further said that even though the Accelerated Urban Water Supply Program at Tingai Khunou was commissioned in 2004, it failed to supply adequate water to the villagers till now due to lack of requisite infrastructure.
He continued that a public meeting was also held earlier to urge the concerned department to make the said water supply programme fully functional at the earliest and to maintain water supply area neat and clean following which a memorandum was also submitted to Chief Engineer, PHED, Imphal on June 3 and to MLA Oinam AC L Radhakhishore, EE PHED, Bishnupur and Chairperson Oinam Municipal Council on June 4.However, no assistance and initiative have been taken from the side of concerned department which is akin to step motherly treatment to the villagers of Oinam, he lamented and added that the villagers are facing acute shortage of water in this soaring summer.
He also expressed disappointment on the part of the EE, PHED of the district who had assured of supplying water within three after they met EE on May 21.If the situation continue to persist till June 14 then the action committee with the support of villagers will stage sit-in protest by blocking half of the road at Oinam market and if the department continue to ignore their demand then the committee will call a total shut down of Bishnupur district and other forms of agitation in the days to come.
Chongtham (o) Anoubi, treasurer of the committee urged the concerned department to construct proper fencing around the water supply scheme to protect its properties from further deterioration as some unscrupulous elements have turned the place their party den during night time making the area unhygienic posing health risk to the villagers.
