Lamka, May 12 2012:
The three-day bandh called by the Kuki State Demand Committee in pursuance of its demand for a separate Kuki state begins tonight with water supply being added in the exempted list while there was minimal relaxation for the ongoing BA exams.
A statement issued by the KSDC said it is compelled to adopt the general strike as GoI has remained a mute spectator to their long standing demand for self-determination under the Indian constitution.
Even as the KSDC announced the exemption of water supply in the bandh purview in addition to media and medical, it said students appearing in the TDC exams should wear their uniforms and produce their Admit card when requested.
Pick and drop of these students would however be restricted it added.
Meanwhile, the KSDC had yesterday submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister calling for immediate settlement of the longstanding Kukis' demand.
'Their (Kukis) struggle to achieve self-determination will not be extinguished until and unless they achieve a peaceful settlement in the form of Kuki State,' it stated.
