Imphal, November 11 2024:
The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) Manipur has urged the Government of India (GoI) to take action against the terrorists involved in killing a woman farmer at Wathalambi Loukon in Bishnupur on November 9 .
Notably, one Sapam Sofia (34), w/o Sapam Dayanand of Wathalambi Santipur, Saiton Gram Panchayat under Phougakchao Ikhai police station was killed when a group of Kuki militants came down from Sandhong Hill and opened indiscriminate fire at the farmers working at Wathalambi Loukon on November 9 .
FOCS, in a statement, said that Chin-Kuki-Zo terrorists attacking farmers by exploiting the harvest season is an act of terrorism.
Condemning the killing, the Federation urged both the Centre and the State Government to arrest the Chin-Kuki-Zo terrorists involved in the incident and penalise them befittingly.
Saying that a company of BSF is deployed near Wathalambi Loukon, FOCS asked why the Central didn't take any action against the assailants.
It would be better for the Central force to leave Manipur if they could not protect the lives and properties of the people, FOCS asserted.
Further asking why the Centre and the Manipur Government are not taking any action against Chin-Kuki-Zo people who terrorise and kill innocent Meeteis especially those living in foothill areas all these months, the Federation asked whether the GoI has given a license to the Kukis to kill innocent Meeteis.
Why is the GoI still silent when immigrant Chin-Kuki-Zo people have been persecuting the Meeteis all these months, the Federation charged while accusing the GoI of subduing the political independence and territorial integrity of Manipur, an erstwhile kingdom.
FOCS said that people of Manipur may give a befitting reply to the GoI if they continue to treat them like some sort of insects.
The Federation said that the Chin-Kuki-Zo MLAs have been spreading falsehood since the onset of the violence in Manipur and it is nothing new.
