Avian surgery performed

The first avian surgery with general anaesthesia and oxygen support was carried out at Claws and Paws Veterinary clinic, Imphal by Dr Devkishore and his staff on Thursday.
'Armless' is a name given to a bird of Black baza species (schedule I), with cute big eyes and a unique crest on its head, rescued by PFA Manipur.
According to a statement, 'Armless' got a compound fractured on its right wing.
The bones were protruding out of the wound.
The wound was found to be about 3 days old and there was little chance of reconstruction of bone and proper healing of wound.
Now the condition of the bird is stable and being given care at PFA animal shelter, the statement said.
Armless was rescued by members of PFA Manipur from Saiton.
It was found injured at the premise of one Akoijam Ratan of Saiton Awang Leikai.
Black baza is migratory bird found in Southeast Asia and it also breed at Northeastern India but it is rarely sighted.
