Panchayat Parishad moots mass resignation

Taking strong exception to the reported modification of rules regarding implementation of MGNREGA by a decision of the Cabinet, the Manipur State Panchayat Parishad has threatened to resign enmasse if the regulations are not reverted to the earlier version by November 20 .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur State Panchayat Parishad office today, president of the Parishad T Itobi decried the official order issued by Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department on November 5 which reportedly modified the modality of implementing the MGNREGA.
He condemned the Government's decision to entrust material component of MGNREGS to suppliers.
Appealing to the authority concerned to revoke the order, Itobi said that all Panchayat Members would resign enmasse if their appeal is not considered favourably by November 20 .
The State Government should adhere to the Government of India's guidelines of 2005.The State Government should go within the provisions of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
The press meet was also attended by 161 Pradhans, and four Adhyakshas of the valley districts.
