Women vendors stage protest

Imphal, October 10 2024:
Khwairamband Keithel women vendors staged a sit-in protest today demanding immediate release of Akoijam Angou, abducted by unknown persons in September end.
Hailing from Thoubal Awang Leikai Sanjenbam Leirak, Akoijam Angou was staying at a rented house at Haobam Marak Chingtham Leikai.
He has been missing since September 30 .
At the sit-in demonstration organised at the Khwairamband Keithel Temporary Market, Khumukcham Ibeton, a woman vendor, said Akoijam Kiranmala, the wife of Akoijam Angou is a vendor who earns her livelihood from the market.
Akoijam Angou has been missing since he went to pick up his daughter from a tuition centre in Uripok on the evening of Sep 30 .
There is video footage showing some unknown persons abducting him from Uripok, Ibeton said.
Ibeton said the family members filed a complaint with the police on October 2, and the police recovered a Bolero vehicle which he had used to go to Uripok.
The family members are suffering and they are in pain since Akoijam Angou was abducted by unknown persons, she said, appealing to the individuals or groups concerned to have sympathy and release him unharmed.
Notably, Meira Paibis and the public of Thoubal and Imphal have staged many protest demonstrations demanding safe release of Akoijam Angou.
While Akoijam Angou's phone has been switched off, no groups or individuals have claimed responsibility for his abduction.
